fiber exchange? What is it?

Welcome to the Fiber Exchange 2011!

There are many breeds of sheep and the distinction of the individual is often difficult ... What do our woolly supplier, where do they live? How is the wool felt in the "natural state" and as a finished product that looks like them out? What qualities does she have? What is typical? These are all questions can be answered in fiber exchange!

aim of the fiber exchange:
Everyone who join in, gets a fiber package with 30 fixed fiber samples sent to you.
Each fiber sample

contains - 20g washed and cleaned raw wool (20g, it can still own sample felted or woven without the raw wool sample is lost)
- 10g carded or combed fiber,
- 10g processed fiber (either spun or felted)
- as well as a description of the fiber.

open to all seriously interested Spinner inside and Filzer / inside. The number of participants is limited to 30. (See also "application")

fiber types

The different fiber types / breeds of sheep are given (to read the next blog!). Each participant can also choose from the list one type of fiber and researched this very intense ... (All who participate, may be called "fiber researcher 2011" type ;-))
Who decides quickly thus has the largest selection. A hook on the list behind the breed means "this .! Fiber is already a participant worked in "

The cost

Participation is free to the (self-) cost of this project consist of two components - the price of raw wool (about 1200 -1500g) of your chosen breed and your shipping costs (outbound and return by insured parcel within Germany about 12-14 € - Shipments abroad are possibly more expensive) The raw wool have different purchase prices -. here is no standard price indicated possible ... It will be here really well so that some slightly more, some pay less ... it's just so - so it no one is forced to join ;-) and, as a reward is so great at the end of the fiber collection !!!!!!!!

period

The fiber exchange 2011 starts on 01.01.2011. The fiber samples of the participants have until 15 June 2011 be received by me . (The extra voted late date is if some fibers only become available after shearing are ....). The participants will be keeping their fiber package no later than the end of June 2011 in hands!

How can I join? - Registration

Please send me (Steph ) a e.mail (click!) parts and me "Your" wish-breed (and please like a "second and third choice ") with. Once you get feedback from me (by mail) and I have you confirmed the participation (with the appropriate breed of sheep), you are AUTHENTIC (!) And if you agree not to take the below tasks. (This sounds very formal .... it is - because it would be a shame if others do the work and spend time and money and get it in the end only 10 fiber samples !!!!!) So, anyone who logs on, must pass through it, too ;-)

parts I want to be called please also whether (or not!) You "in particular" (first name possibly with link) as a participant on the left side of this blog. (Possibly with blog or homepage address).
I also need your e.mail address with which you are registered with blogger, so I can let you exchange fiber as an author in 2011-this blog.
Who does not own Blogger account can open one for free as an author writing in the blog posts .... however, this is not a prerequisite for participation!

The answer e.mail is also a little barter fiber logo as. Jpg file included. It is explicitly allowed and encouraged to go over all the advertising logo (in your blog etc.) do ! With a lot of advertising we do it hopefully, get to 30 participants together.

Responsibility of the individual participants - the approach

advertising in your blog / on your website so that we get 30 people together! (Is not compulsory but would be useful!)

2) Details of the selected (by e.mail notified) breed of sheep collect ... for now in particular: identify source (s) (the Filzerinnen pay attention get 2000g raw wool - - to "Filzbarkeit" the wool ;-))

3) 1300g important thing is that at the end of 30 packages, each with 40 g of final product to come out - depending on raw wool (washed / sorted, etc.) is the initial quantity more or less, since wool and dirt may need to be sorted out!! Please calculate for yourself!

4) If you feel like, holds the camera ready!! It would be great if as many participants in this blog post images or descriptions, procedures, tips and queries, etc.! Thus, an interesting exchange of views on everything related to the fibers and practices take place, etc.! I'm looking forward !!!!!!!

6) Prepare various Batch

- 600g (that is double the amount), washed and cleaned raw wool
- 300g carded or combed wool
- 300g carded or combed wool, which you weiterverarbeitest - either spun or felted sample (one floor!)

7) processing of the third batch of a total of 30 samples (10 g) of either 30 spun yarn mini felted strands or 30 samples (one area about 10x10 to 15x15 cm - each on fiber!)

Photograph one or more strands of yarn or a felt samples!

8) to gather information about
- fiber fineness (micron)
- Fiber Length / staple length (cm)
- Ripple
- shine (a lot, medium, low)
- for what use (clothing, directly on the skin or who have not, other products ...)
- felt qualities (filzt bad, good, moderate)
- Contact addresses
- Where to
- own experience with the fiber
- a picture of the sheep
-short "story" of the sheep - since when has this sheep Aces, where first occurrence now, what if crossing Races, etc. (anything goes!)

9) Thus, it is defined: Download the fact sheet template here as a pdf (click) or here as word / pages file (click) . Please requirements (font, font size note order, etc. and leave it as the default - it is supposed to be defined)

10th) completing, treatment of the arrest. 30x print or copy pack

11) 30 fiber package. (In sheet protectors (A4))

Each package includes at the end:

- 20g washed and cleaned raw wool (20g, it can still be a separate sample felted or spun without that the raw wool sample is lost)

- 10g carded or combed fiber,

- 1 set mini-train or a felted sample (approx. 10x10 to 15x15 cm)

- the characteristics of your fiber.

12th) IMPORTANT! IMPORTANT! IMPORTANT!
prints you for the return a valid DHL parcel from (not package, because no tracking possible) that you put in the package! This you can do here at dhl online (click!). This is important because I no packets back end, which I have to pay !!!!!! The parcel must therefore bear YOUR NAME AS RECEIVER (And mean as the sender!).

13) The 30 fiber packs down into a package and send no later than 15/06/2011 to me (Steph). The address I share on request (click!) with by e.mail.

14th) If you are registered as an author here in the 2001-exchange fiber blog (see also item "Registration"), shall now put the characteristics of your breed and the photos of the samples online as a post in this blog. The title of the posts must match the name of your breed from the list on the left side of this blog agree. I will then each sheep breeds from the list link to the post.
In this way we create here at the same time an on-line reference "for the 30 participating breeds of sheep!

15) anticipation (on the arrival of your package mixed fiber) is half the fun !!!!! Have fun with it!!

Shipping Details

The shipping costs will be borne by each participant alone!
means that with each participant their own outward and return costs n.
Each participant shall submit a completed thus completed and paid parcel in the package . This can be achieved most easily when the parcel purchased online at dhl and prints. Shipped is insured PACKAGE (Price € 5.90 within Germany).
